Utilities Employees Credit Union (UECU) was originally chartered in 1934 to serve gas and electric utility employees residing on the East Coast. Formed as a cooperative organization where workers could save and borrow from their collective financial resources, UECU gradually grew into a full-service credit union for utility and energy workers nationwide. In 2021, we expanded our field of membership to the entire state of Pennsylvania to provide our exclusive membership benefits to residents through the Pennsylvania American Consumer Council (PACC). Today, we serve 48,000 members from a single headquarters in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
We are a virtual credit union that operates as a financial co-operative, which enables us to offer exclusive membership benefits. Unlike banks, UECU has no shareholders and is instead owned by its members – so every UECU decision is made with the best interest of the membership in mind. We serve a nationwide membership without branches on every corner because we don’t expect you to come to us. We deliver account access to you wherever you are through convenient digital banking services and friendly & knowledgeable employees.
While other financial institutions spend money on their branches, we return these funds to our members through exclusive membership benefits – low-cost loans, savings rates higher than the national average, member rewards, unique checking benefits, and free financial wellness resources. The more UECU members use their credit union for all their financial needs, the greater the profits returned to the membership. Our cooperative, cost-efficient business model has helped us maintain a strong fiscal position – ranking UECU as a 5-Star “Superior” Credit Union by BauerFinancial for 32 years.

How We Give Back
UECU and its employees live by the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” For over 25 years, the Credit Union and its employees have been supporting the United Way and many other charitable organizations. In 2021, UECU made a $37,445 donation supporting the United Way’s key initiatives.
Our employees donate their time and talents to support many non-profits in the communities we serve. They also support our utility and energy industry partners by attending industry events, hosting financial wellness sessions, and traveling to our partner company locations.
