About UECU’s Student Scholarship:
Utilities Employees Credit Union (UECU), a national financial institution primarily serving the utility and energy industries, is pleased to offer an annual Student Scholarship Program. Each year, UECU announces the topic for our scholarship contest for UECU members who are heading to or currently attending college or advanced training at an accredited institution.

The UECU Student Scholarship is Available to:

  • UECU students who have become members by having an eligible family member in the utility / energy industry who works for a UECU partner sponsor company (see www.uecu.org for list).
  • Joined UECU through their own employment at a partner sponsor company while pursuing further education.
  • Individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Reading, Pennsylvania. (Certain restrictions apply; contact a UECU Member Services Representative for precise geographic boundaries.)

UECU Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
Entrant must be a UECU member in good standing with a UECU Share Savings Account in his/her own name, prior to the scholarship submission deadline. You may find out how to become a member by calling UECU Member Services at 800.288.6423 or by clicking here.

  • Member must be a high school senior through college graduate student.
  • Member cannot be an employee of UECU, its affiliates, a UECU Board Member, a Supervisory Committee Member, or family member and/or living in the same household thereof.
  • Member must be attending or accepted at an accredited college, university, or post-secondary trade school. Verification of attendance/acceptance will be required of the winner only.

Submission Requirements:
Member must submit an entry with name, address, valid email address, phone number, UECU member number, and name of college/university/school the student is currently attending or will be attending.

Members may select ONE of the following scholarship submission types: digital photo or video (there is no requirement for the length of the video). Photo and video submissions should capture the volunteer work or service activity that you completed in 2017 or 2018. Examples may include:

  • Photo/video of you participating in a volunteer/service activity
  • Photo/video of a completed volunteer/service project
  • Photo/video of the individuals who benefitted from your volunteer/service activity

All photo and video submissions should be accompanied by a brief written or video explanation of how the volunteer/service activity had a positive impact on your community and you! There is no requirement for the length of your explanation, we just want to hear about the extraordinary impact you made in the lives of others and what you learned from your experience.

Videos should be broadcast on YouTube.com; you may submit the YouTube.com link for the video to UECU by mail or email.

The entry information (digital photo, videoYouTube.com link, written/video explanation, AND required contestant information) can be emailed to Promotions@uecu.org or mailed to Utilities Employees Credit Union, P.O. Box 14864, Reading PA 19612, Attention: Marketing, no later than May 7, 2018.

Prizes: The Scholarship is made payable to the college or university of choice in the winner’s name by August 2018.

Deadline: Completed entries must be received by May 7, 2018.

Entry Judging Criteria: Entries will be judged on the ‘impact’ the applicant made through his/her volunteer work/service activity - were many people affected by the activity, or were individuals impacted in a major way? Additional judging criteria will include personal growth - did the applicant gain insights or a better understanding of the value of service?

Scholarship Award: One winner will be selected in this year’s scholarship contest and awarded $2,000 if they meet the scholarship eligibility requirements.

Winner Notification: The winner will be notified by email and asked for verification of completed volunteer work or service activity, as well as verification of attendance or acceptance at an accredited college, university, or post-secondary trade school.  After all information is verified, a check will be distributed to the school of the winner. The winner will be announced on the UECU website and in the September edition of UECU’s Member News.

Release: All entries become the property of Utilities Employees Credit Union and by submitting the entry you authorize UECU to utilize all or a portion of the information for purposes of press releases and/or publication in UECU newsletters, website and social media content, newspapers, trade magazines, etc., announcing the scholarships recipients’ names, contents of the entry, and other reported information.
