UECU's President-CEO Brett KrevolinGet To Know Our New President/CEO: Bret Krevolin

Let’s welcome our new President and CEO, Bret Krevolin!  The Board of Directors has selected Bret as the next leader of Utilities Employees Credit Union (UECU). Bret succeeds Patricia Zyma, who retired from UECU on December 31 after 20 years of service.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

I was born in Philadelphia and raised with my four sisters in Upper Dublin Township, a northern suburb of Philly. After attending Syracuse University and obtaining my Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Law and Public Policy, I returned to the area to work for CoreStates Financial Corp., the parent company of Philadelphia National Bank.  After obtaining my Certified Public Accounting license, I worked for the public accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand as an auditor, with a focus on clients in the financial services and health care industries. While working, I took evening classes and obtained my MBA with a concentration in Finance from Temple University. One of my clients was The Quakertown National Bank (now QNB Bank), which was in the process of becoming an SEC registrant, and I was hired as their Controller due to my strong financial reporting skills. During my tenure at QNB, I was promoted to the Senior Management Team as an Executive Vice President Chief Financial Officer. In July 2014, after 25 years at QNB, I became UECU’s Vice President/Chief Financial Officer, responsible for overseeing the investment portfolio as well the Finance, Member Services, Card Services, Deposit Services and Wealth Management areas.

I reside in Montgomery County, PA with my wife of 25 years. We have three daughters and we are extremely proud of what each of them has accomplished. We recently added a puppy to our family, a Cavapoo, named Penny. I am a sports enthusiast, particularly college basketball and all Philadelphia sports teams. In the past, I coached my daughters’ community and travel soccer and basketball teams and was an assistant girls’ basketball coach at the high school level. Coaching basketball is an activity that I would love to become involved with again when the time and opportunity presents itself.   While I enjoy golfing, I cannot say I am all that good! My family and I enjoy traveling together, especially to the Caribbean and Disney World.

What has been the biggest change in your transition from the banking world to the credit union world?

Our focus at UECU is truly on our members. A for-profit bank always has to keep its shareholders happy, which means decisions are sometimes made with the shareholders’ interests at the forefront instead of the customers’. As a credit union, our members are our owners, and every decision is evaluated and made with the members’ best interests in mind. We return profits back to our member-owners through higher deposit rates, lower loan rates, and our VantagePoints™ Rewards Program.

What can our members expect from your first year on the job?

Offering our members exceptional personal service remains a top priority. UECU will continue to have a strong focus on our members’ needs and we are making investments that will support our members nationwide. These investments are typically in technology or new products or services. For example we are acting on feedback we’ve received from our members to improve the uecu.org website and to make significant enhancements to our online and mobile banking services. In addition, we will be completing the merger with ClearChoice Federal Credit Union and welcoming their members to the UECU family.

What is the number one thing you would like our members to know about UECU?

“Exclusive. Exceptional. Empowering. Reflecting the People We Serve” is more than just a powerful tag line. It creates an image that tells the story of how UECU feels about its membership and its relationship with utility and energy employees and their families. Our exceptional members often perform difficult and dangerous work to keep our communities safe, powered, comfortable and connected; we value and appreciate them, and are proud to empower them with exclusive access to our products and services.

How to Make it Work for You
UECU’s unique solutions offer you savings, low payments and convenience
Michael Malone
Vice President - Lending

You own a home! Congratulations!  Did you know that as you pay down your mortgage, your home can help you finance renovations, get a degree, consolidate debt, make a large purchase, and more? In fact, your home can help you accomplish these goals both conveniently and affordably.

The asset you create as you pay down your mortgage is called home equity. It is the difference between the value of your home and the amount you owe on your mortgage.  You can use home equity to secure low rate loans and lines of credit. These loans are typically considered as 2nd liens after your primary mortgage, making them one of the most affordable loan options available.

UECU can help you use your home equity in two smart and affordable ways with no fees or closing costs, and no points*:

Fixed Rate Home Equity Loans

  • low rates that save you money: as low as 2.99% APR**
  • terms up to 20 years to keep payments low
  • fixed payments to make budgeting easier

Flex HELOC (Home Equity Line of Credit)

  • allows you to use only what you need, when you need it
  • 1.99% APR 12-month introductory rate; regular variable rate as low as 4.25% APR^
  • peace of mind: lock in a fixed rate on all or part of your balance

These are only a few of UECU’s home equity product benefits.  If you are looking for a low-cost financing option to meet an important need, or simply to reduce monthly payments, UECU’s Home Equity loans or lines of credit may be right for you.  Call us at 800-288-6423 to get started, or apply online 24/7 at www.uecu.org.

Borrow up to 100% of your home's value for less with a UECU home equity term loan

*You may be eligible for a no-cost loan; however, some fees may apply including an appraisal fee depending upon individual underwriting circumstances or fees imposed by third parties. Some states charge additional recording tax after loan origination for which you are responsible. If your home is located in SC, an attorney must assist with your real estate closing, and may charge fees. Early closing reimbursement fee of $400 will be assessed if Home Equity Loan or Line of Credit closed within the first 12 months after opening; up to $200 if closed during months 13 to 36.
**Rate based on 90% loan to value (LTV) & 60-month term. Rate shown is our lowest rate which is based on an evaluation of credit and maintaining an active UECU Checking Account with at least one transaction per month. Other rates and terms available; offer can be discontinued at any time without prior notice. APR = Annual Percentage Rate. Home Equity products are not available in all states. Real estate must be first or second lien, 1-4 family owner-occupied residential property. Homeowners insurance is required. Flood insurance required for properties designated in flood zones. Equal Opportunity Lender. ^Home Equity Line of Credit Introductory Rate is for the first 12 months from date of loan. After 12 months, existing and new balances will be subject to the regular rate. Regular rates may vary and adjust quarterly based on the Wall Street Journal Prime Rate (Index) plus 0.0% APR (Margin) for up to 90% LTV (currently 4.25% APR); plus 1.0% APR (Margin) for 91 to 100% LTV (currently 5.25% APR). Maximum lifetime interest rate will not exceed 18% APR.

UECU's President-CEO, Bret KrevolinMessage from our President
Bret Krevolin
President/CEO

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had an excellent holiday season and an outstanding 2017. I am honored to begin the New Year as your President and CEO. Before reflecting on 2017’s successes, I would like to recognize our newly retired President and CEO, Patricia Zyma, for her contributions and leadership to our Credit Union for the past 20 years. Pat was instrumental to the organization’s growth both in terms of asset size and membership as well as the expansion of our product and service offerings. My best wishes go out to Pat as she begins a new phase in her life, spending more time with her family and pursuing other interests.

UECU had another outstanding year in 2017, culminating with the completion of UECU’s merger with ClearChoice Federal Credit Union.  I am excited to welcome over 2,000 ClearChoice members and four employees to the UECU family.  We also added over 2,600 members to UECU through both sponsor company relationships and referrals from satisfied members.  Our team looks forward to providing our newest members with competitive loan and savings rates, a wide range of loan and deposit products, a comprehensive rewards program, investment services and exceptional personal service.

As a result of UECU’s strong financial performance in 2017, UECU was able to give $800,000 back to our members through the Member Loyalty Bonus™  Program.  Since the inception of this program in 2011 UECU has awarded over $6 million to its loyal members. During 2017, UECU enhanced and simplified our checking accounts, improved our VantagePoints™ Rewards Program by adding premium merchants, introduced a Flexible Home Equity Line of Credit product, expanded our student loan program to include consolidation loans, improved our mobile banking platform and enhanced the security features on members’ debit and credit cards with Card Controls.

Under the leadership of our past CEOs, UECU has grown into one of the best credit unions in the country.  Rest assured, we will build on the successes of the past and continue to provide our members with the same level of service you have come to expect. The UECU team is committed to providing you with the tools, programs, products and service that will empower you to reach your financial goals.

Thank you for being a valued member of UECU! We wish you and your family a happy, healthy and successful New Year.
